"I was eating an ultra-sweet chocolate pudding, something which I do not normally do. I was up till about 10 pm pottering around the house and then went to bed. At about 3 am I was woken by an acute pain in my stomach and a dull ache in one of my rear molars. After a few hours approximately 6 am I fell back asleep exhausted."
3.
"I finally awoke stomach craps gone but the toothache was worse, I rang work to tell them I was not going to make it today and promptly phoned the dentist. It took quite a bit of smooth talking to the receptionist to get me an appointment, I was told that I was lucky there had just been a cancellation. Finally 1:37 pm I am in the dentist's chair with him hovering the gas mask over my face, and the numbness sets in and the drilling starts."
4.
"With my mouth still numb standing there in front of the receptionist, my private health is invalid? systems are down and please be patient, we will try again. The outage is much wider than we first thought. Electronic payment is down and the receptionist jokingly asks, can I pay in cash? As I write an IOU other people in the queue demand attention now. I walk out of the dentist's office face still numb to try to determine how or why this financial outage occurred. I visit a few retailers on the walk home and they too have experienced the same outage as others. This is not an isolated incidence."
5.
"I check my phone, there is news from overseas that there is a global collapse of all financial electronic payment systems, IT analysts have been called in and discovered core hardware systems have been "fried" at an atomic level and we need to replace millions of dollars worth of data-center computers ASAP, No automation back to basics, back to the abacus it would seem, at 4 pm my phone was no longer receiving any updates, I stop at a coffee shop and try to order a coffee with a 2 dollar coin I have, the barrister says he only accepts cash now as his systems are down, he tells me I am lucky and hands me a short black."
6.
"I step out of the coffee shop feeling a little bit better to face the afternoon, the heat from the sun becomes overwhelming as I slow my walking pace to prevent myself from becoming overwhelmed with sweat, I move to the shady side of the street as I see the melting plastic on parked cars and tar on the road looking as if it was liquid, I know it's the middle of summer but gee does it have to be this hot, I try my phone in vain, it too is hotter than my hands can stand, I need water now. I am still 15 min from home and it's unbearably hot out here."
7.
"The heat overcomes me as I walk down the street, I feel my faded memories come back to tell me that they told me so and why didn't you respond when I called you, why did you ignore us, you knew that we were coming, don't be one of the ignorant ones, I double take my thoughts and wish I had a cigarette, I had not smoked in over 20 years. Then I saw them, I blinked and they were not there, but in the back of my mind I knew they were still there even though I could not see them, I could hear them, nagging me, playing captain hindsight with me, second-guessing my sanity, I am over thinking things as I press on walking home, I know they are following me, I see them on first glance back over my shoulder. A frantic teenager approaches me, screams they are here, and tells me more is coming. I walk on the chin up pretending to be the ever-disbelieving sceptic."
8.
"I can see fireworks off in the distance and wonder what people are celebrating at this time, then just 50 meters from me an explosion occurs with great heat. I need to walk past it to get home, there is a small crater, are we under attack, I look up and see what appears to be a beautiful meteor shower, I am at peace, then secondly filled with dread that vindictive humans have pressed the red button. All I need to do is make it home, I have food for some days and can sit and wait to see what happens, but then I hear them in my thoughts and realize this is not from the physical earth. As I sit down back at home after a day of mayhem, they tell me that I am Lucky and definitely not alone, I look over my shoulder, they are visible for but a fleeting glimpse"
